The Sordo Winery is based on a clear and determined principle, namely that of the utmost respect for nature and the environment.
In fact, so says the owner himself:
“With this philosophy we work our vineyards according to the suggestions of modern agriculture.
In the inter-rows we maintain controlled grassing with grasses and other plant species which, in addition to consolidating the soil by preserving it from rainwater washout, expand the organic substance at the time of burying, totally eliminating the use of chemical fertilizers and herbicides. We treat the vines above all with sulfur and cupric products such as Bordeaux mixture and only in case of serious need, we make use of other health aids, strictly following the advice and dosages indicated by qualified agronomists.
We have solved the difficult problem of waste water, with the construction of a state-of-the-art phyto-purifier that allows water free of pollutants to be returned to the ground.
With these principles, which we will always continue to improve following the progress of science, we hope to contribute to the defense and protection of our Mother Earth “.
Sordo Winery Family business
The company is family-run and boasts three generations of love for the earth, for the nectar of gods and men as Euripides said: where there is no wine there is no love, nor do mortals have any other delight.
The adventure of this family begins with grandfather Giuseppe, in the early 1900s.
Then, his son Giovanni with his wife bought more land at a propitious moment, that is when they were not too expensive and marked the turning point of the company.
Currently, Giorgio leads it and produces almost a million bottles all with the DOCG brand.
On the hills of Barolo, the company extends along over fifty hectares of land composed of calcareous marl and, thanks to a specific type of climate, Nebbiolo has found its ideal cradle.
The company boasts modern facilities for both winemaking and storage and packaging.
In addition, it has a hundred large oak barrels and all production processes are based on traditions handed down from fathers to sons, in respect for a land that has always offered precious wines.
